Rhedosaurus: The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms (KMAC) by Hedorah1971 Rhedosaurus: The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms (KMAC) by Hedorah1971
Here is a piece that I have been working on for the past week or so for :iconkaijuden:'s monthly art challenge. This month, the subject was Rhedosaurus from: The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms. Great Harryhausen film. Oh, everyone wish Mr. Harryhausen, the stop motion master behind this film and many others, a happy 92nd birthday! Give or take a few days. Anyways I hope you guys like it because I poured out my heart into this, trying to get all the details right, from head to tail.

Oh yeah, and for those of you who have watched this flick, take notice of the octopus fighting the shark in that building right where the Rhedosaurus is surfacing...you remember that from the movie, don't you? In the movie, there was a scene where a real octopus fought a real shark but then they got eaten by the "bigger fish" if you get what I'm saying ;)

Normally I wait and post all the reviews for the Art Jam up in the Den's Journal but I figure I will post it here a bit early :)

I always enjoy seeing pieces that have busy backgrounds that usually derive from city landscape. The detail to each bump and scale on the hide is really well done. It’s a pretty close representation of the monster, just with a slightly smaller head. But I can understand why you did it the way you did. It just seemed so weird that his head was the size of most of his upper torso in that flick. It is a great action scene though. I wish that buildings had a bit more darker shades in their gray-scales. But then again, with them like that, it does make the shade and detail on the dino stand out even more. So that is really just a personal preference. It is an expansive piece though that really is a great entry. :)

Thank you for that review. I really appreciate that you guys take the time to give each entry a detailed review. By the way, did you notice that octopus and that shark fighting in the window? :)

Ho what a great and nostalgic work!
You’re Rhedosaurus look really awesome!
The great and detailed texture of his skin, and the terrific design (of both monster and background) make it all so EPIC.

Nice! The first one I remember watching was Godzilla vs Megalon. I watched that almost everyday at my grandma's house when I was like 3 :)

I wish I cloud have watched all the Goji movies when I was a kid.
Sadly I only gut to know them when I was 14, and still haven't seen most of them.
BTW have you gut my previous replay?

Yes, I did, I was just trying to find a good time between my schedule so I could give it a good read and give you a solid reply. I might read it now that I don't have anything going on :)
